Giannis to the Nets? Fans emotional rollercoaster never seems to end.

Once again, there seems to be news stirring around the NBA involving Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Brooklyn Nets going “All in” to getting him.

Being a nets fan for 20 years, this seems to be another bluff to get more engagement towards the organization. Positive press seems to be something the nets get only by luck, all just to get disappointed in the end. Giannis 3 years left on his current deal, with a player option in 2027, when he will be at the age of 33.

This nets team is nowhere near ready to command a superstar to contend for an NBA title. In a trade deal for Giannis, multiple first round picks would have to be forfeited, and some key pieces that would be needed for the Nets to contend would have to be included in the deal. Draft picks in the NBA for the most part are totally useless, but at least Sean Marks has somewhat made up for the shortcomings of Kevin Durant, James Harden, and Kyrie Irving. For being a Nets fan for as long as I have been, being disappointed is something that is expected from this franchise.

Some hope could be restored with a Giannis deal to the Nets, but at the same time pessimism is baggage that comes with being a net fan, and it doesn’t seem evident to me that there are any routes to compete in the east unless the nets go after other pieces in free agency.

Names that could go alongside Giannis that could change the chances for the Nets to compete going into 2025 free agency are guys like Clint Capela, John Collins, and Julius Randle. Time will tell what the plan will be, but it would be silly to get Giannis, and not surround him with suitable talent to compete for an NBA title.
